July 18, 2025 - California Fish Leather Company Joins Great Lakes Initiative to Fully Use Each Fish

Aquaborne, a California-based fish leather producer, has become the 43rd company to join GSGP’s 100% Great Lakes Fish Initiative. Using an eco-friendly tanning process, Aquaborne transforms discarded fish skins into durable, high-quality leather, supporting sustainability, minimizing waste, and creating new economic opportunities.

“Turning fish skins into fashion-grade leather is exactly the kind of creativity this initiative is all about,” said David Naftzger, Executive Director of GSGP. “By linking Great Lakes fisheries with innovators like Aquaborne, we’re proving that sustainability and economic growth can go hand-in-hand.”
